Eating At The Bar
Page 4Gramercy Tavern
Don't take this fine dining restaurant by Union Square as seriously as it takes itself. Instead, treat Gramercy Tavern as a fun neighborhood spot where you can eat a fantastic burger at the bar.
Buvette
Buvette is a French restaurant in the West Village that’s great for a date or a really good breakfast. Just be aware that it can get pretty cramped.
L’Artusi
One of our favorite West Village Italian spots, L'Artusi is still as reliable as ever. Try it for a special dinner, and order pasta.
Altro Paradiso
You don’t have to play tennis or own a beach house to love this West Soho Italian cafe, you’ll just embody that energy while you’re here.
Ruffian
Ruffian is a tiny East Village bar with a huge natural wine list and a short menu of really good Mediterranean food.
Miss Ada
Miss Ada is a small, comfortable spot in Fort Greene with great Israeli food and an outdoor garden in the back.
Shukette
Head to Shukette in Chelsea for labne, pita, and other Mediterranean dishes from the Levant region.
Au Cheval
The original Au Cheval in Chicago makes one of our all-time favorite burgers, and the location in Tribeca serves a damn good one as well.
Yopparai
Next time you’re looking for a date-night restaurant on the LES, book one of the kotatsu tables at Yopparai for some excellent Japanese food and sake.
Bobwhite Counter
Bobwhite’s ain’t fancy, but The Counter gets the job done right. The eat-in dining experience is not ideal, so it’s best to just call these guys and order your weight in fried chicken to go.
M. Wells
M. Wells is a decent date night spot in Long Island City that’s more of a bistro than a steakhouse.
Ivan Ramen
Ivan Ramen is an extremely popular ramen spot that started in Japan, and has become a classic Lower East Side restaurant.
Crown Shy
Crown Shy is an American restaurant in the Financial District that serves decent food in a posh space.
Rai Rai Ken
There’s plenty of ramen in the East Village these days, and no shortage of opinions on where to go. We happen to believe that Rai Rai Ken sits near the top of the heap, mostly because that shoyu ramen is so good, but also because it’s inexpensive and simple.
Sushi of Gari 46
A Midtown West/Times Square location of this classic New York sushi restaurant. Sushi of Gari is a solid option for the area.
Vini E Fritti
Located inside the Redbury Hotel, Vini E Fritti is a wine and snack bar that’s a great place to meet someone in Nomad.
Totto Ramen
Five years after it opened, the original location of Totto Ramen is still packed pretty much all of the time. That's because it's still awesome.
Claro
Claro is a great Oaxacan-inspired restaurant that’s even better when you’re sitting in the backyard.
Il Posto Accanto
Il Posto Accanto in the East Village is home to some of the best meatballs and pastas in town. Plus, it has a great wine list and open air dining.
Cull & Pistol
Cull & Pistol is our new favorite destination in Chelsea Market. Say what you will about the crowds, but this is as good as workday eating probably gets.
Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria
The Italian food at Noho’s Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria has the honor of being among the only things in history to improve after a key lineup change.
Lupa
Lupa is an ideal spot for that early-in-the-week dinner in Greenwich Village that you sort of want to cancel but can’t.
Bar Jamón
Bar Jamón is basically Casa Mono's waiting room. However, for that First/Early in the Game Date, where dinner feels too formal but you are also starving, Bar Jamón was designed for you.
