There are plenty of places to get a quick bite in the West Village, but a lot of them involve eating pizza standing up or scooping hummus with whole wheat pita. That’s not the case at Berber Street Food, a counter-service spot serving mostly pan-African food, like sirloin skewers, shawarma-filled sandwiches, and a large plate with slow roasted lamb. Our favorite things are a couple of the street-food-influenced small plates - the vegetable curry empanadas and the black-eyed pea fritters, which taste like a mix between falafel and hush puppies. This lunch and dinner spot has about 10 seats, but keep it in mind for takeout as well.
