If you spend time around Kips Bay, you know there are plenty of bars serving pitchers of Harpoon IPA and showing replays of Mets games on 20 different TVs. Stay Gold is not one of them. This is a cocktail spot on 3rd Avenue from the team behind The Up & Up - an upscale bar in Greenwich Village - but this place is more casual than that one. You can have drinks like a frozen one made with bourbon, IPA, ginger, and lemon, and there’s also a big backyard full of picnic tables and hanging lights.
Stay Gold is permanently closed.

Danny Meyer’s Gramercy Park Roman Italian restaurant is better than we initially thought, especially for a date or an upscale brunch.
Simon & The Whale
Simon and The Whale is the main restaurant at the Freehand Hotel, and it’s the sort of place where you can eat great food and run into an ex.
Old Town Bar
Over a century of Big Apple history lies within these walls, as does a pretty excellent burger. Come have a beer and pretend your horse is outside.

The NoMad Bar
Thanks to the prices, this casual(ish) bar in The NoMad hotel probably isn’t a place that you can afford to visit often. But when you do, eat dessert.
