Down a nondescript alley near some newly-constructed townhomes in Columbia City is Backyard - a barbecue bar that’s an enjoyable place to spend a few hours. Backyard has a neighborhood feel, a jukebox, five different games, and a solid lineup of draught beer. When you don’t want to worry about not getting a table or what happens when your friend gets a little tipsy and loud, head here for a couple games of darts and surprisingly excellent housemade barbeque. Get the smoked brisket poutine, and the salad that includes house-smoked pistachios.

Stout is a Capitol Hill utility bar. It’s never too busy, and works for groups, birthday pre-games, and watching sports. The food is decent too.
