Given that 2020 has already changed everything else in our lives, we’re not sure why we would want to celebrate a “typical” Thanksgiving this year, especially when that usually entails a dry turkey and neon Jell-O salads. No, we’re ready for a radical upheaval - join us in the revolution by ordering a unique Thanksgiving dinner from one of these 10 spots.

Check out our guide to Boston Restaurants Offering Thanksgiving Takeout for a more comprehensive list of Thanksgiving specials.

The Spots

$$$$ 1 Kendall Square

Someone should call up the National Association of Thanksgiving Traditions and petition for lox and braised brisket from Mamaleh’s to be the official proteins of the season. They’re much more flavorful than even the most hand-fed of all heritage birds - no offense to any turkey farmers or the turkeys themselves, of course. Mamaleh’s is also offering a number of other delicious-sounding things, like challah stuffing and chocolate tahini pie. Pre-orders can be placed online for pickup on November 24th or 25th between 10am-8pm.

Brassica Kitchen & Cafe

$$$$ 3710 Washington St

Brassica in JP is already one of our go-to spots, regardless of whether we’re looking for a breakfast pastry, a mid-day sandwich, or a multi-course dinner. Now we can turn to them for a Thanksgiving bird too. They’re roasting whole ducks, which are the superior fowl in just about every possible universe. Don’t forget to add Brassica’s well-known honey pie and a bottle of wine to your order as well - pickups will be on November 25th from 5-9pm.

Veggie Galaxy

$$$$ 450 Massachusetts Ave

For vegans, Thanksgiving dinner can sometimes end up looking like ridged cranberry sauce on a stale roll with a side of sadness. While that combo may actually be the perfect mascot for 2020, vegans deserve a better meal. And with options like cornbread stuffing, mac and cheese, and lemon meringue pie available at Veggie Galaxy, maybe there’s reason for us to all have a new meatless Thursday tradition. You can order ahead online until November 22nd.

KO Pies At The Shipyard

$$$$ 256 Marginal St

What if your whole Thanksgiving dinner table was filled only with pies? That’s certainly a possibility, especially if you order the braised turkey and cranberry sauce mega pie from KO in Eastie. But since the sideists would complain, you can appease them by ordering the sausage roll stuffing and bacon fat cornbread too. Actually, those two things sound pretty good - maybe we should listen to the sideists more often.

New City Microcreamery

$$$$ 403 Massachusetts Ave

Or maybe the sideists would be equally as happy if there were just ice cream pies for all - New City Microcreamery is currently taking pre-orders for their apple, pecan, and pumpkin ice cream pies. If you’re thinking that just having ice cream for Thanksgiving isn’t a very balanced meal, you’re right. That’s why you should also get the mixed berry and sweet potato pies from Petsi Pies for some added fruits and vegetables.

American Provisions

$$$$ 613 E Broadway

Since you’re already considering giving up turkey, what if you doubled down and gave up on dinner plates too? The large cheese and charcuterie board from American Provisions serves 16-20 people as an appetizer - also known as four people as a full meal. They’re also selling a mixed case of natural wines and quart-size sides, if you’re insistent on other food. A Thanksgiving with charcuterie, wine, and spoonfuls of mashed potatoes from a takeout container with no required after-dinner cleaning? Sign us up.

Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar

$$$$ 1310 Boylston St

The official website of the organizing body for the annual presidential turkey pardons is EatTurkey.com, where thousands of turkey recipes are available. Maybe that’s an apt metaphor for politics, and the motivation we need to start a grassroots movement for pardon reform. Citizen’s whole roasted pig dinner with five sides would be the centerpiece of organizational efforts and, on years with favorable budgets, a few seafood towers and orders of spice-rubbed ribs would make an appearance as well.

Neighborhood Kitchen

Fusion  in  Medford
$$$$ 84 Spring St

If you’re insistent on getting a gobbler, it should taste really good. That should be true every year but, in a season of life otherwise filled with let downs, this year’s centerpiece bird needs to be especially uplifting. Yes, that’s a lot of pressure to put on it’s, um, snood, but we’re sure the Creole turkey at Neighborhood can rise to the occasion. And even if it can’t, the Cajun-crusted ribeye, Creole lobster, and incredible mac and cheese that come with your order will erase any sense of disappointment.

Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen

$$$$ 604 Columbus Ave

Perhaps you’re a whole turkey purist and the Creole turkey breast from the aforementioned Neighborhood Kitchen quite doesn’t fit the bill. We’re not sure how you got this far into a guide that promised a radical upheaval of Thanksgiving, but hey, here we are. Go ahead, order the fried turkey from Darryl’s Corner Kitchen with mashed potatoes and gravy - you know you want to. But could you at least appease us a little by adding a side of Cajun seafood jambalaya too? Thanks.

And if you’re a whole turkey purist who has been traumatized by watching too many deep-fried turkey disasters on YouTube, then we’ve got you covered too. Scott Brothers, the team that sells food at Winter Hill Brewing, is offering whole smoked turkeys along with all the standard sides and pies. Pre-orders must be placed by Nov 16, so please, take a break from those videos for a while.
