Special Club is a jazz club from the people behind Tokyo Record Bar, and it’s a good spot for a date night in Soho when you need something more exciting than dinner and a movie. It’s in the basement below Niche Niche (from the same owners), and it feels festive and old-timey - like something you’d see in a Martin Scorsese film set for a 1960s movie, but cuter and less violent. There are two seatings every night at 8 and 10pm, and if you want a table, be sure to book in advance. But if you just want poke your head in and see what’s going on, there’s a little area by the entrance reserved for walk-ins. Just keep in mind this place only serves beer, wine, and soju cocktails, there’s a $20 cover, and the food here isn’t worth your time. If you’re ok with all that and just want to listen to jazz with someone you’re romantically involved with, check the schedule online, pick a night to go, and stick to drinks.
