Le B serves the kind of luxurious, decadent food that would require a dress code if it were uptown. Instead, this restaurant brings West Village cool to European-inspired dishes like Dungeness crab Wellington and pheasant in champagne sauce. The room, painted a nautical navy blue, does look like it belongs to someone with a roman numeral at the end of their name. But an oversized Art Deco chandelier and some sultry mood lighting keep it from feeling stuffy.
The menu isn’t as serious as it first appears either—Onions Nancy, for example, is just a fancier take on the onion dip at your potluck. Bring a visitor who has money to blow (that crab Wellington is delicious, but it’s $68), and wants an uptown-downtown experience without straying north of 14th Street.
