Detroit Pizza Islington
Detroit Pizza’s original Spitalfields restaurant isn’t the kind of place you can spend a lot of time in, but their Islington location is. Tucked away down an alley off Upper Street, this marinara-obsessed pizza spot has kept the same high standards of pie, as well extending the reaches of its menu with a handful of Italian-American dishes. Downstairs there’s a bar to pitch up at with a couple of US beers on tap (in London, PBR is exotic) and the dining room is all diner-style booths and stools, for saucy chicken parms or pizza parties with pints. Upstairs there’s an enormous room adorned with sports stuff and screens, set up for big groups of friends to gather—pepperoni pies, buffalo wings, and all.
