There’s a case to be made that Abbeville Village is the best neighbourhood in London. The people here are literally so happy that even your best South London zingers glance off them like jelly shots at a fresher’s rave - you can’t hurt their feelings. Why are they so happy? Because while you have a stabby looking pub at the end of the street, they have the beautiful Abbeville pub, and while you have an always-empty curry house, they have Bistro Union.
Bistro Union is a lovely neighbourhood restaurant that’s perfect for the area, with a look that’s a cross between a bistro and a gastropub. There are racks of wine on the walls, and a pretty bar with craft beer and wine on tap. Wine on tap! If that doesn’t convince you to move to Clapham, then nothing will. Bistro Union is a relaxed, comfy place to have a meal or a drink, and the menu’s full of hearty British dishes that wouldn’t feel out of place at a high-end gastropub.
Should you travel to have dinner at Bistro Union? Probably not. But if you live even within a 20-30 minute walk, you should make tracks. Just be prepared to confront some happiness.
