Udupi Palace
This vegetarian spot’s specialty is dosa, which makes up a significant portion of the long menu. Udupi Palace’s versions of the South Indian dish have well-crisped edges, but taste over-fermented, and are served with a perfectly acceptable (if too salty) sambar. You’ll find plain dosas, ones filled with potatoes and onions or chutney and cheese, and varieties made with lentil flour instead of rice. The idlis are slightly better, and if you go early in the day (say, during lunch by yourself), you’ll likely get them with sambar that’s tangy and doesn’t taste too reduced. The restaurant is quiet, and ideal for a low-key dinner with friends or a weeknight dinner alone, but we suggest visiting Annapurna for a great vegetarian meal on Devon instead.
