On the surface, a musubi-focused Downtown counter spot like Musubi Kai sounds great. It could be an ideal launchpad to nab nori-wrapped canned ham and zip over to Pike Place. But the namesake dishes at this small spot are too rice-heavy and larger plates like pineapple beef sukiyaki taste bland. If you stop by, it’s best to stick to musubi basics involving boldly flavored Spam that can cut through the surplus of rice.
