With every new month comes a ton of new things to do and eat in and around SF. If deals on pizza and wine or lassi-inspired ice cream sound like fun, get your calendars ready and read on.
Sake lovers, listen up. Hilda and Jesse in North Beach is hosting a Sake By The Bay dinner on July 28th at 5:30pm. The American restaurant will have a summer ingredient-themed five-course meal ($85), with an optional sake pairing ($65 extra) highlighting sakes by local producers Fifth Taste and Sake Tengoku.
On July 31st from 11am-3pm, Lion Dance Cafe, the vegan Chinese-Singaporean spot in Uptown Oakland, is hosting a bake sale for safe abortion access. All proceeds will go toward The Brigid Alliance, an organization that supports people needing to travel for abortion care. Expect to see tons of other plant-based treats from places like Viridian, Bake Sum, Annie’s T Cakes, Edith’s Pie, plus actual plants and a raffle by Planterday.
Outta Sight is a fantastic pizza pop-up that operates out of Fig & Thistle in Hayes Valley. And they just launched a new Happy Hour. Swing by Tuesday-Sunday from 5-6pm for $20 Madonna pies (mozzarella, marinara, and basil), $5 fries, and $10 glasses of wine.
There have been tons of new restaurant openings this summer. One new spot we love (and just added to the Hit List) is Midnite Bagel in the Sunset. Their garden-fresh tomato and lox sandwiches on whole-grain sourdough bagels are fantastic, and getting one is a foolproof way to start your morning.

Automat, the all-day bakery and cafe in NoPa, just started offering a picnic box that’s available for pick-up on weekends. The $70 set (meant to serve 2-4 people) includes things like their house sourdough, smoked cod dip, farro salad, chocolate chip cookies, white miso blondies, and more. Pre-order here.
Salt & Straw’s latest rotating flavor is a collaboration with Besharam, the Indian restaurant in the Dogpatch. The lassi-inspired ice cream has raspberry jam and toasted cumin seeds mixed in. Swing by the restaurant or either of Salt & Straw's SF scoop shops (Fillmore or Hayes Valley) now until August 4th to try it.
It’s never a bad time to get into a hefty rectangular pizza—and SF has lots of great options. Check out these six spots serving fantastic Detroit-style pies, from a Bernal Heights brewery to a slice shop in SoMa.
