This retro diner-inspired American spot in North Beach is where to go for decadent pancakes. Their version has cranberry maple syrup and melty butter that overflows down two-inch-tall buttermilk pancakes like an erupting science fair volcano. The best part? The colorful spot offers them all day. Get into some for Monday night dinner or during brunch alongside steak and eggs or avocado “toast” that replaces bread with sweet potato tempura. The dinner menu is mostly the same as brunch, with the addition of an eclectic $75 tasting menu highlighting whatever the chef feels like sending out that night, from deviled sunchokes to scallops in carrot and kaffir lime broth. Still, our preferred way to eat here is to roll in for breakfast-for-dinner dates or morning post-night-out recovery meals, and just go for the pancakes.
