Woodbine’s is a pub, but it’s nicer, cleaner, and a little more West Elm-y than the usual place where you play darts and drink Guinness. It’s open all day, they serve a full dinner menu, and they also have live music sometimes. Plus, it’s nice enough for a date (you can grab a table in the back), and it’s a good spot to hang out and eat a burger if you ever find yourself in Long Island City.

Left Hand Path
Left Hand Path is a bar in Bushwick that kind of feels like an old wooden ship. Also, there’s a backyard. Have a birthday there.
There are two Garrets in the city, and the one on the west side is a speakeasy above a Five Guys. It’s a cool space, but expect a crowd and top-40.
Tip Top Bar & Grill
Tip Top is a classic dive in Bed-Stuy owned by the same family for decades. It's cash-only, and it feels like someone's basement. Check it out.
