With its tile floors and teriyaki lunch specials, Suzuki Shokudo’s casual appearance hides the fact that it’s one of the best sushi spots in Long Island City. At this family-owned restaurant, the owner works the sushi counter himself, serving an $80 omakase that includes appetizers like prawn head, squid sashimi and monkfish. Japanese movie posters and paper umbrella light fixtures give the place some personality, and it turns into quite the local scene by dinner time. Bring someone you like-like, and you can bond over keeping your new favorite date spot a secret. That teriyaki is pretty fantastic too.
