This place is not actually named after a man called Bob White—instead it’s named for a bird called the Bobwhite. But if there were a Bob White behind it, we’d want to thank him for his fried chicken. At the Urbanspace Union Square location of this counter chain, you can order tenders, a hefty sandwich, and a chicken caesar wrap with crispy fried chicken, which is a notable upgrade from the grilled variety. We prefer the original Bobwhite on Avenue C, but if you’re in Union Square, this is a solid choice for a quick lunch. It’s also right next to Lou Yau Kee, a Singaporean spot, in case you’d like to follow your fried chicken with some poached chicken.

Bobwhite’s ain’t fancy, but The Counter gets the job done right. The eat-in dining experience is not ideal, so it’s best to just call these guys and order your weight in fried chicken to go.

A big spread of food on a round table.

You'll pass through Union Square at some point this week, and you might as well eat something good.
