Jumbi is a cool, slightly secret spot that you’d probably gatekeep if you were a south London local. It’s hidden on an industrial estate behind warehouse doors—a neon red sign is the only indicator you’re in the right place. During the day, a collective of oversized t-shirts and branded cap-wearers sprawl on sofas and share comforting plates of Trini doubles in the airy, high-ceilinged space. But come evening the glowing orb lights give everything a red tinge, the space starts to fill up, a disco ball twirls, and the well-thumbed records in the DJ booth begin to see some action. It’s a laid-back night, with chats happening over the music and groups spilling outside into the concrete courtyard. Well Fed Naz sends out Caribbean dishes from the kitchen of this Peckham spot, and the plates of plantain nachos alongside rum punches always hit.
