Hiden
Whoever said that to be a jack of all trades is to be a master of none had clearly never met Hiden. The Japanese curry shop is a hard-working, helpful spot in Finsbury Park that takes you from coffee and pastries in the morning, to massive croissants filled with chicken katsu at lunch, to fragrant curries in the evening. The food is good, solid stuff that appeals to the part of our brain that likes weighted blankets. Go in the morning for a peaceful, solo pit stop involving good coffee and a croissando—a large, not-very-sweet pastry that comes filled with katsu chicken, tartare sauce, and Japanese brown sauce. Or, visit in the evening with a small group for a quick, low-key dinner of flavoursome beef curry. It’s all tasty and comforting, and the dining room, with floor-to-ceiling windows drinking in the light and mood-boosting mustard yellow paint, is uplifting at any time of the day.
