Pizza Matta comes from the team behind Giant, it’s fantastic next-door neighbor in Logan Square that’s one of The Best Restaurants In Chicago. But this take-out-only pizza place is disappointing. The pies are all build-your-own, so you can go as unhinged as you want. But even if you’ve engineered the perfect topping combination, you'll end up with a boring pizza. The bland dough is straight down the middle—neither thick nor thin—but less of a Goldilocks perfect medium and more of a “well, I guess this works.” The sauce and cheese are also unengaging, lacking flavor and zestiness. There are too many good pizza places in Chicago for just-fine, so if you’re in the area and want a good pie, make your way to Middle Brow or Paulie Gee’s.
