6 New Things To Do & Eat In Chicago This Week
A Filipino pop-up downtown, an art show in the West Loop, and a River North pumpkin patch where you can eat candy apples and pie. We’ve got details on all of those things, and more events happening in the city between September 28th and October 5th. So if you’re looking for special dinners, openings, and pop-ups around the city, you’ve come to the right place.
The Things
On Saturday, October 2nd, Revival Food Hall is hosting a pop-up dinner called SuperHai With Friends. It’s a $60 multi-course family-style meal with drink pairings, and they’ll be serving yōshoku-style Japanese food along with Filipino and Indonesian dishes from Boonie Foods and Minhansa. The dinner goes from 6-8:30pm, and 15% of proceeds will benefit AFIRE Chicago (Alliance of Filipinos for immigrant rights and empowerment). You can purchase tickets here.
On Monday (October 4th) Bar Goa, an Indian restaurant, is opening inside Time Out Market food hall. This spot is from the folks behind [Rooh], and will serve dishes like chicken cafreal stew, a pork vindaloo “poi-wich,” and prawn balchao. They will also have Indian soft drinks like Limca and Thums Up.
Downtown hotel Le Méridien Essex Chicago, is throwing a “Patio Pawty” on Thursday from 4-7 pm. As the name suggests, it’s a dog-friendly event, and takes place at Grant Park Bistro. A professional photographer will be there to capture pet portraits, and dog treats will also be available. The event is free, but you can register here.
This Wednesday The Whistler is finally reopening in Logan Square after being closed for 18 months. Along with great cocktails, this bar has live music nightly, and doubles as an art gallery too. Check out their [website]{https://whistlerchicago.com/) to see the menu and calendar of events.
Are you looking for photogenic fall sh*t to do but don’t want to drive all the way out to an apple orchard? Good news, JoJo’s Pumpkin Patch is back. It takes place on their 5,000 sq. ft. patio, has over 600 pumpkins, a 1954 Red Ford Truck, hay bales, and a metal bathtub filled with corn. They will also have boozy hot chocolate and ridiculous treats like the Pumpkin shake which comes with (wait for it) a slice of pumpkin pie, Reese’s Pieces pretzel, roasted marshmallow, and a Taffy Apple.
The Other Art Fair
The Other Art Fair, which focuses on emerging artists, will be at Revel Fulton Market from September 30th through October 3rd. It will feature original works from over 120 artists, and will have interactive workshops, DJ sets, food trucks, immersive experiences for kids, and special exhibits. Tickets range from $15-30, and kids get in for free. Head to their website for more info.
