Some Nashville hot chicken places exist to test your internal thermometer, while others—like Nanu’s Hot Chicken in the Northeast—are just here to provide a little sizzle. Although their dining room is large, there are only a few round tables inside. If you snag a seat, you can look at the Philadelphia–themed murals on the wall while you wait for your order of tenders, sliders, mac and cheese, and crispy shrimp. Their spice levels span from mild and medium to hot, extra, and reaper (and we’ve eaten them all). But don’t avoid the inferno mountain top—the reaper has all the heat of a bag of Hot Fries, and unfortunately, the chicken lacks the same crunch.
