The Deal: $6 Everything

Do you know those really old game shows where people went to a supermarket, fill their entire carts for free, and lost their minds in the aisles? That's how it almost feels during Happy Hour at Center City’s QU Japan Bistro Bar when you load up with $6 rolls, gyoza, and fried rice. And by “everything,” they really mean it—even the sake, cocktails, and Japanese beer get the $6 treatment.

When: Daily, 4-7pm

The Deal: $5 House Wine, Featured Beer, And Cocktails

Sampan is an Asian restaurant in Midtown Village, and while the large, loungey, and very purple space may feel a little outdated, the food here is still good. We’re especially into the small plates, like the chicken bao bun and chicken egg roll, which are all $6 or less during Happy Hour. And if you’re not into sitting inside, you can get the whole Happy Hour menu out back at the Graffiti Bar, which is a lot less purple.

When: Monday-Friday, 5-7pm

The Deal: $5 Beer, $7 House Wine, And $9 Slushies

Bud & Marilyn’s is a retro spot in Midtown Village that looks like it’s straight out of the 1960s, with all the wood-paneling and black-and-white dial TVs that you can imagine. And during Happy Hour, all of the buttery comfort food—like crispy cheese curds and fried chicken sandwiches—is just $4-8 per dish.

When: Daily, 3-6pm

Bar-Ly has the best Happy Hour in Chinatown, with great drink specials and discounts on over 20 of their small plates. It’s also the only sports bar in the area, which means you can pregame a Sixers game with a few drinks and have your tab probably be under $20.

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm

The Deal: $4 Select Draughts, $8 House Wine, And $8 Draft Old Fashioneds

Pub & Kitchen is a people pleaser. You could take your boss here, your friend from crossfit, or someone you barely know but are forced to get drinks with. And considering some of their best dishes are discounted, like pierogis, sesame seed milk buns, cheese board, deviled eggs, and baked mac, you probably won’t even have to talk that much.

When: Daily, 4-6pm

The Deal: $5 Beers, $6 Glasses Of Wine, $7 Cocktails

The basement of Giuseppe & Sons has a bar that wraps around the entire, enormous room so there are almost always seats available. You can stick to the $5 cocktails during Happy Hour, or add an entire plate of cavatelli for $7.

You want to get to Double Knot early if you plan on getting a table or a seat at the bar during Happy Hour, because as soon as 5pm hits, it feels like everybody in the city who works in an office descends upon the bar. That’s probably because the drinks are not only cheap but also really good. And they discount a bunch of their excellent small plates to just $6, including things like dumplings and handrolls.

When: Daily, 5-7pm

The Deal: $7 Cocktails And $8 Appetizers

When you have an awkward amount of time between the end of work and the beginning of your Hamilton show, head to Abe Fisher for a few Happy Hour drinks. And, while you’re there, you might as well order a few of their $7 small plates that are all inspired by Jewish deli food.

Even though McGillin’s doesn’t have a dedicated Happy Hour, there are so many specials on a daily basis here that we had to include them on this guide. They differ every day, but the best ones are $4 IPAs on Mondays, $6 margaritas on Thursdays, and $5 Bloody Marys, mimosas, and bellinis until 3pm on weekends.

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm

The Deal: $3 Tecates, $4 Drafts, $5 Margaritas and Flavored Margarita Of The Day

El Rey is like a festive, retro diner full of booths, long tables, and vintage movie posters plastering the walls—all of which make it a good spot for an after-work team outing. During Happy Hour, they’ve got $2 vegetable tacos, street corn, and $4 carnitas tacos in addition to the drink specials. It gets pretty crowded, so get there early if you want a seat.

When: Tuesday-Friday, 5-7pm

Vedge isn’t the type of place you’d normally just go to for dinner on a random weeknight. But you can just walk into Happy Hour at the bar six days a week without thinking twice. That’s because this high-end vegan spot has all of their cocktails for half off, and a bunch of their small plates are cheaper than usual too—like the mushroom carnitas tacos.

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm

The Deal: $1 off drafts and Citywides, $7 Old Fashioneds, Moscow Mules, And Negronis

The Deal: $1 Off Drafts, $3 High Life, $8 House Wine, $8 Happy Hour Cocktail, $8 Sake

Even if Bing Bing Dim Sum didn’t have Happy Hour every day, we’d still want to spend our nights here, sipping on wine and ordering multiple rounds of dumplings with friends. But the specials just mean we come here earlier on weeknights, and day drink here on weekends—and we only spend $18 on our three orders of dumplings instead of the normal $24.

When: Tuesday-Friday, 4-7pm

We’re pretty sure Birra, a small pizza place on East Passyunk, has the cheapest Happy Hour pizza you’ll find in the city. On weekdays before 7pm, a medium pie here only costs $6. Pair that with a few margaritas and dinner will only cost you around $15.

The best part about Devil’s Den—besides the Happy Hour deals—is their fireplace, which makes this a go-to for after-work drinks in the winter.

The Deal: Half-Priced Drafts

If you live around East Passyunk, you’ve probably been here for a beer or five with your friends to end a night of bar hopping. The Deal: $5 Margaritas, $16 Pitchers, And $2 Off Draft Beer

Cantina Los Caballitos has one of the best Happy Hours in the city, and it’s even better when it’s warm enough to sit outside on their patio. The large, outdoor space with umbrella-covered tables is right off East Passyunk, and from 4-6pm on weeknights you can get a $15 frozen margarita pitcher to split between you and a few coworkers.

When: Monday-Friday, 4-6pm And 10pm-12am

The Deal: $4 Drafts And $6 House Wine

White Dog is a West Philly staple. And while it’s not our favorite place for a full dinner, it’s perfectly good for a drink and some appetizers during Happy Hour. They have $10 sandwiches and shared plates, and their portobello mushroom bánh mì is probably the best thing there. Plus, they do $5 cocktails.
