And since the space is a little small, it’s best to bring the one person in the office who you communicate with using only side glances and head movements. That's how it almost feels during Happy Hour at Center City’s QU Japan Bistro Bar when you load up with $6 rolls, gyoza, and fried rice. And by “everything,” they really mean it—even the sake, cocktails, and Japanese beer get the $6 treatment.

With one of the biggest and brightest spaces (thanks to the neon pink signs) in Spring Garden, we get why La Chinesca’s Happy Hour always draws a crowd. Head to Patchwork's patio in Center City for small plates like $6 serrano ham and manchego croquetas with fig jam and pierogis with everything spiced crème fraîche— all priced at $6 each. Kensington’s Hook and Master has Happy Hour on Thursdays and Sundays, which means you can get discounted beer, daiquiris, and $4 plain slices on almost every Eagles game day. Plus, this place’s Happy Hour is unlike any other in the city—there’s a late-night version from 10-12pm on Friday and Saturdays.

You’ll probably see half the city at Oyster House after work on any given day since this place has both great Happy Hour deals ($1 oysters) and an excellent menu in case you decide to stay for dinner after a few glasses of punch.

Sampan is an Asian restaurant in Midtown Village, and while the large, loungey, and very purple space may feel a little outdated, the food here is still good. We’re especially into the small plates, like the chicken bao bun and chicken egg roll, which are all $6 or less during Happy Hour. And if you’re not into sitting inside, you can get the whole Happy Hour menu out back at the Graffiti Bar, which is a lot less purple.

Bud & Marilyn’s is a retro spot in Midtown Village that looks like it’s straight out of the 1960s, with all the wood-paneling and black-and-white dial TVs that you can imagine. And during Happy Hour, all of the buttery comfort food—like crispy cheese curds and fried chicken sandwiches—is just $4-8 per dish.
Bar Ly Chinatown
When: Daily, 3-6pm
Bar-Ly has the best Happy Hour in Chinatown, with great drink specials and discounts on over 20 of their small plates. It’s also the only sports bar in the area, which means you can pregame a Sixers game with a few drinks and have your tab probably be under $20.

Pub & Kitchen is a people pleaser. You could take your boss here, your friend from crossfit, or someone you barely know but are forced to get drinks with. And considering some of their best dishes are discounted, like pierogis, sesame seed milk buns, cheese board, deviled eggs, and baked mac, you probably won’t even have to talk that much.

The basement of Giuseppe & Sons has a bar that wraps around the entire, enormous room so there are almost always seats available. You can stick to the $5 cocktails during Happy Hour, or add an entire plate of cavatelli for $7.

You want to get to Double Knot early if you plan on getting a table or a seat at the bar during Happy Hour, because as soon as 5pm hits, it feels like everybody in the city who works in an office descends upon the bar. That’s probably because the drinks are not only cheap but also really good. And they discount a bunch of their excellent small plates to just $6, including things like dumplings and handrolls.

When you have an awkward amount of time between the end of work and the beginning of your Hamilton show, head to Abe Fisher for a few Happy Hour drinks. And, while you’re there, you might as well order a few of their $7 small plates that are all inspired by Jewish deli food.

Ember and Ash is a Passyunk Ave. restaurant that’s an ideal stop for a good cocktail, a tray of oysters, and a few hearty mains off the grill. Thankfully, you can get two of those things during their Happy Hour. Come by to catch a game, an order of the smoky wings with BBQ dry rub, and sneak in a glass of wine and a bowl of mussels before the discounts stop.
When: Monday-Friday starting at 5pm and Saturday and Sunday 12-3pm

Even though McGillin’s doesn’t have a dedicated Happy Hour, there are so many specials on a daily basis here that we had to include them on this guide. They differ every day, but the best ones are $4 IPAs on Mondays, $6 margaritas on Thursdays, and $5 Bloody Marys, mimosas, and bellinis until 3pm on weekends.

El Rey is like a festive, retro diner full of booths, long tables, and vintage movie posters plastering the walls—all of which make it a good spot for an after-work team outing. During Happy Hour, they’ve got $2 vegetable tacos, street corn, and $4 carnitas tacos in addition to the drink specials. It gets pretty crowded, so get there early if you want a seat.

Vedge isn’t the type of place you’d normally just go to for dinner on a random weeknight. But you can just walk into Happy Hour at the bar six days a week without thinking twice. That’s because this high-end vegan spot has all of their cocktails for half off, and a bunch of their small plates are cheaper than usual too—like the mushroom carnitas tacos.

There’s a wallpapered dining room in The Dandelion that looks like a place you might have tea with Kate Middleton, but there’s also a pub room where, on top of drink deals, you’ll get $5 snacks like deviled eggs.

Nunu’s a very red bar in Fishtown that’s great for a post-work first date or drinks with a few friends. In addition to their drink specials, they also do $6 maki rolls, and $7 Italian hoagie egg roll.

Cheu Fishtown is from the same people behind Nunu (and it’s right next door), so it makes sense that they have a similar Happy Hour situation. Except here, the $5-$8 snacks are things like butternut squash rangoons, pastrami bing buns, and black garlic wings.

The Deal: $1 off drafts and Citywides, $7 Old Fashioneds, Moscow Mules, And Negronis
Lloyd’s, a neighborhood bar in Fishtown, has some of the best bar food in the city. And all of the small plates, from crispy chicken nuggets to mac and cheese, are just $7 during Happy Hour.

For some solid BBQ and cheap drinks in Fishtown, check out Fette Sau. During Happy Hour, take advantage of their $6 pulled pork sandwich with spicy slaw—and make sure to load it up with one of their three types of BBQ sauce. They also have Whiskey Wednesdays, where they'll be offering a $5 Old Fashioned and a $5 Peach Whiskey Punch during Happy Hour on hump day.

Like every other place on this list, Jerry’s Bar has some great Happy Hour deals. But they don’t just stop with normal discounts. This neighborhood bar in Northern Liberties has daily deals on top of the normal drink discounts.

Prohibition Taproom is a corner neighborhood bar in Callowhill that happens to have pretty good bar food—most of which is $5 and under during Happy Hour.

The closest you’ll get to Germany in Philly is at Brauhaus Schmitz—a German beer hall on South Street that serves all 30+ of their draft beers for just $5 during Happy Hour. If you’re hungry, they do $6 sausage sandwiches as well.

Tattooed Mom, a cool bar with graffiti-covered walls on South Street, does a regular Happy Hour with daily $4 drafts deals.

Even if Bing Bing Dim Sum didn’t have Happy Hour every day, we’d still want to spend our nights here, sipping on wine and ordering multiple rounds of dumplings with friends. But the specials just mean we come here earlier on weeknights, and day drink here on weekends—and we only spend $18 on our three orders of dumplings instead of the normal $24.

Second District looks like your average brewery, with high ceilings and a warehouse-like feel. But unlike most other breweries in the city, this place has select food items discounted during Happy Hour.

Cantina Los Caballitos has one of the best Happy Hours in the city, and it’s even better when it’s warm enough to sit outside on their patio. The large, outdoor space with umbrella-covered tables is right off East Passyunk, and from 4-6pm on weeknights you can get a $15 frozen margarita pitcher to split between you and a few coworkers.

The Sidecar used to be a pretty average dive bar in Graduate Hospital. Then it was taken over by the people behind Mike’s BBQ and Stockyard Sandwich Co. and now the food is great. There are things like Detroit-style pizza and a few other snacks.

American Sardine Bar in Point Breeze changes up its Happy Hour menu every day, but it always includes discounted things from their dinner menu, like the apple-walnut grilled cheese and Cholula honey wings.

White Dog is a West Philly staple. And while it’s not our favorite place for a full dinner, it’s perfectly good for a drink and some appetizers during Happy Hour.
