It’s not enough to just open a sushi restaurant these days. You have to do something new, and different, like open it in a former pizza shop. From the teams behind Scarr’s and Taikun, Sushi Oku serves a $165, 15-course omakase meal inside the back of the old Scarr’s space, so you can eat uni in the presence of pizza parlor booths while listening to some very quiet rap. Around the eight-seat counter, you’ll be handed a tender scallop with charcoal salt,a piece of mackerel so smooth and mild, and more than one course with uni and caviar, because we know you’re wondering. After you’re done, Scarr’s is right down the block for a post-fish slice, which might just become a LES tradition. It’s almost like they did this on purpose.
