A hidden bar accessed through Okdongsik, George Bang Bang is a good place to wait for a counter seat at that Koreatown soup specialist, or to get a drink for dessert after dinner. This place is so committed to its speakeasy theme that they actually light oil lamps on either side of the long bar, never mind all the wood and flammable bottles. It’s dark enough to tell ghost stories in this high-ceilinged spot, with a record player spinning big band jazz, and vintage trunks for tables. The cocktails are pricey and perfume-like, tending towards sweet and botanical, and you’ll find snacks like honey butter chips and house-made beef jerky. The low bar, with regular chairs for patrons, and bartenders in a sunken area behind it, is a nice touch.
