Downtown Burritos Cocina Mexicana
When it comes to dealing with a hangover, there are two camps. There are people who get up, go for a run, and hit the farmers market for their weekly dose of ashwagandha. Then, there are the rest of us, who wake up with hot machetes in our brains and simply need a giant, greasy breakfast. Enter Downtown Burritos Cocina Mexicana. This tiny East Village counter has an arsenal of heavy-metal breakfast burritos, smothered classic burritos, and other taqueria staples for takeout. Our favorite, the chorizo and potato breakfast burrito, is stuffed with eggs, cheese, and black beans, and is best eaten loaded with hot sauce on a bench in Tompkins Square Park. If that sounds like it might turn your guts into an industrial concrete mixer right now, try the pernil pork tamal, freshly steamed in banana leaves.
