Louie’s at Palm House

Take a walk down the Miami Beach boardwalk—all the way from 1st Street to Haulover Inlet—and you’ll see plenty of bars and restaurants. But 99.9% of them exist exclusively for tourists who don’t know any better. That’s why Louie’s, a tiki hut situation in the back of a Mid-Beach hotel, is so valuable. This Cuban concept is one of the only local-friendly options a mere 15 yards from the sand.

The window of opportunity to grab a delicious sandwich from Louie’s is small. On paper, which is to say Instagram, they’re open Fridays from 6-11pm, and Saturday through Sunday starting at noon. But they also close a lot for private events. So double-check their Instagram before you decide to come here.
The menu is mostly things between bread. They make a very meaty cuban sandwich that’s one of Miami’s best, and creamy shrimp croquetas worth ordering. There’s a full bar, too. This is a great place to take a little break from walking down the boardwalk, or just to remind yourself the beach isn’t only for tourists.

Smash Me
This is the kind of burger you gaze at in disbelief after the first bite because it tastes even more spectacular than it looks. Two perfectly smashed patties stacked on top of each other with a single slice of melted american cheese. And the addition of tangy Louie's "bang" sauce is the best $2 you'll ever spend.

Pan Con Bistec
This city runs on pan con bistec. But very few are as good as this one. The steak is tender, the bread is ultra crispy, and when you dip it into Louie's house sauce, it takes the experience to another dimension—one where this sandwich is our mayor, and our city is a better place because of it.

Cubano
This is a cuban sandwich that really makes pork the star of the show. It’s heavy on meat—delicious roast pork is nearly overflowing. Everything else is there (pressed cuban bread, swiss cheese, mustard, and thin pickles) but in small enough ratios that don’t distract from the pork.
