Kalamaki Greek
You’ll need a moment to take in the decor at Kalamaki, a casual all-day Greek spot in Mid-Wilshire. It’s all very on the nose in an endearing way: Fake white and blue flowers dangle from the ceiling, prints of Santorini line the walls, and a fluorescent sign shouts, “Keep Calm and Go To Greece!!” Trust us, Kalamaki, we would if we could. But for now, we’ll take the solid souvlaki at this reliable lunch option.
Previously a food truck, Kalamaki’s brick-and-mortar has an expanded menu that offers a bit of everything: generously stuffed gyros, big Greek salads, feta-topped “Greek fries” best enjoyed warm, and beef sandwiches on chewy vromiko bread (similar to a baguette). Everything is perfectly fine and lends itself to an easy midday meal. And as random as it sounds, Kalamaki also has really good frozen yogurt. It’s made with real Greek yogurt supposedly, and the nutty honey-tahini flavor is enough reason to ditch the Pinkberry down the street.
