Mei Mei
Despite only opening at the tail end of 2019, Mei Mei instantly became one of those restaurants that we now can’t picture London without. A 14-seat open kitchen counter styled on the kopitiams of Singapore, it’s right in the heart of the feelgood buzz of Borough Market. On the changing menu you’ll find things like assam fish curry, deep fried chicken rice, nasi lemak, and a fantastic coconut milk ‘Captain’s Curry’ that warmed the cockles of our grumpy little hearts on one particularly savage rainy Thursday.
Although the seats here fill up quick, you can also grab anything on the menu to take away along with a bubble kopi and realistically, a big smug smile as everyone eyes up your kaya toast. Whether you bag yourself a seat at the counter or grab-and-go and find a bench with a view of the river, this place is perfect for a catch-up over coconut rice, dining solo, or a lowkey date where you want to show off with orange wine and some of the best Singaporean food in London.
