Frank’s is an old-school caff where the tea is ridiculously strong and you can get a massive plate of pie and mash and lashings of gravy for less than a tenner. They have massive breakfasts and you can also grab a proper bacon and egg roll to take away. It’s a no-nonsense place that probably won’t make any healthy eating lists any time soon, but will put some meat on your bones and a grin on your face.

The Laughing Gravy at first glance seems to be a run of the mill British Brasserie, but it has quite a few surprises in store.
Elliot’s is a class act, from the drinks and food to the service. Their cheeseburger is also one of the best burgers in London.
Hixter is a plush, modern British restaurant close to Tate Modern that’s excellent for dinner and drinks with a group. Get involved at the bar, too.

Ozone in Shoreditch is best known as one of London’s best coffee spots, but their non-stop food offerings make them a restaurant in our book.
E. Pellicci is an old-school classic in Bethnal Green. It’s warm and welcoming, and if you don’t get a Full English breakfast, you did it wrong.
Mother is a cafe along the River Lea close to Hackney Wick, that serves tasty vegan food. Come for the juices, and stay for the relaxed ambience.
