The first location of Carnitas El Guero was a small, cash-only affair in a gas station in South Austin. But now Mexico City-born chef/owner Gustavo Reyes has opened a second location on North Lamar with a full kitchen and a liquor license. The restaurant still serves the epic carnitas, but here the menu has expanded a bit, with dishes like tortas and pozole. They also serve a cantarito, the tequila cocktail originally from Jalisco that’s served in a clay pot rimmed with chile powder.
