Miller Union
Success has a way of changing people. Like when your brother starts sending you unwanted emails about enlightenment after nailing his first headstand in yoga class. Or when your friend gets a big promotion and suddenly has very strong opinions about the quality of sheets. Luckily though, there are some people who are completely unaffected by their success, like Willie Nelson or Mr. Deeds. And when it comes to restaurants, the same can be said about Miller Union.
This Southern restaurant in West Midtown opened back in 2009, and really helped change the Atlanta dining scene. This place was casual, but with really high quality food, looked like a restored farmhouse, and worked just as well for a big date as it did for impressing a client or your future in-laws. Quite a few years on, all of that’s still as true as ever. Years of success haven’t hurt Miller Union. If anything, they’ve only made this place even better.

The food here is mostly upscale Southern, but includes a few Mediterranean dishes as well, and it’s a good place to come and split a few different dishes and have a few drinks. The menu changes regularly, but you’ll find everything from butterbean hummus and oysters topped with green strawberries, to duck breast with blueberries over hoe cakes. The farm egg in celery cream never leaves the menu and is always how you should start any meal here.
While it’s always best to make a reservation at Miller Union, they also have a great bar where you can sit for a full meal, or just eat some grits fritters over a glass of wine. And that’s a big part of what sets Miller Union apart from so many other places. While the food here is undeniably high end, Miller Union never feels stuffy at all. It’s a welcoming and approachable spot where ice cream sandwiches are served at lunch and there are always two servers available to answer any questions you might have. Regardless of how universally praised this place is, it’s safe to assume that Miller Union won’t be changing any time soon.

Food Rundown
Farm Egg Baked In Celery Cream
This is Miller Union’s greatest hit and it’s the first dish you should order when you eat here.
Grits Fritters
These fried bites of cheesy grits and ham are what you’ll wish were available as a side for every meal. Our only complaint is that they come six to a plate, rather than 30.
Duck Breast
If you came here especially hungry, this is what you should order. The duck breast comes topped with a blueberry sauce and served over savory pancakes, which together make it kind of taste like breakfast - in a good way.
Braised Lamb Shoulder
This lamb comes with a chickpea-carrot panisse, which is basically a big fry made of chickpeas instead of potato, along with grilled carrots and turnips for a healthy dose of vegetables.
Rhubarb Pavolva
Miller Union is somewhere that you should absolutely have dessert, and the pavlova is a good choice if you just want a bite or two of something that isn’t overly sweet.
