Dosa Corner
Change is constantly in the air in San Francisco, so after Al’s Place closed it was inevitable that something new would take its spot. Enter Dosa Corner, a South Indian restaurant specializing in the eponymous dosa. The inside remains mostly unchanged from Al’s, so expect the same, almost beach-like interior albeit with completely different food. The dosa menu runs deep with savory choices like gun powder (podi) dosa, paneer tikka dosa, and masala dosa, all accented with fragrant and spicy chutneys and sauces. Also on offer are the pancake-like uttapam topped with things like mixed vegetables and podi. The rest of the menu consists of entrées like chicken coconut kuruma and palak paneer, though they lack the luster of the dosa and uttapam. For the best results stick to those wonderful dosa and uttapam—and maybe order a few small bites like the baby corn manchurian/pepper fry.
