Rudy’s Pastry Shop, a 90-year-old German bakery that looks like something out of a Frank Capra film, has been owned by an Italian family since the 1980s, which means it’s now a spot where you can get a very good strudel or rainbow cookie. If you’re in the neighborhood and craving something sweet and specific, chances are you can get a perfectly satisfying version here—they have everything from black-and-white cookies to key lime pie. But if you want a taste of what they do best, get an oatmeal marshmallow sandwich cookie, or a slice of one of their signature beinenstich or black forest cake.
