La Casita
La Casita is a classic Cuban spot on 8th Street that’s a bit hit or miss. There are some standout items on the menu like croquetas so thick and crispy, you can drag a finger across the outside and hear it crackle. But the vaca frita is a bit dry, (ask for a side of mojo to help it soak in some juices), the white rice is hard and brittle, and the black beans are thin. It’s quieter and more mature than other Cuban restaurants—tables are lined with white linen and smooth jazz plays in the background. But menu misses aside, it’s still a good option if you’re looking for a time-tested Cuban restaurant in Coral Gables.
