Admittedly, Elly’s feels like it could very well be a Brooklyn transplant. There’s natural wine, a custom wooden DJ booth filled with vinyl, and lots of arms covered in tattoos. The food definitely isn’t Mexican—it’s more of a rustic, cooked-in-a-wood-oven menu—but they do incorporate local ingredients like huitlacoche when available, as well as smoky, spicy salsa macha. It’s a bit further from the rest of the restaurants near the Museo de Arte Moderno, but the setting is beautiful and worth the 25-minute walk (or five-minute Uber).
