If you’re reading this, congratulations. You’ve made it through the ninth week of August and still have it in you to do something fun this weekend. The events we’re excited about include a BBQ party, a collaborative dinner series, an ice social, and more.
This Sunday, August 28th marks the 6th annual BBQ Day at Smorgasburg. Vendors from all over the state will be descending on the Arts District from 10am-4pm including Oakland’s Horn Barbecue, Simi Valley’s Zef BBQ, and a handful of other homegrown spots. Admission is free.
If you’re at wits' end over this heat, we feel your pain. And that’s why you’ll find us drinking this weekend. Whether it be a michelada, a glass of orange wine, or a margarita, there’s no reason to go thirsty.
Night Off LA, the collaborative dinner series highlighting hospitality professionals of color, is back on Tuesday, August 30th. The event is happening at Kodo in the Arts District and will feature food and drinks from 6-10pm and DJ and drinks from 10pm-midnight. Vendors include Trophies Burger Club, Panhead LA, and Vervet. Tickets are $45 and include one dish or cocktail from each vendor.
This Saturday, August 27th, Yoboseyo Superette in Little Tokyo is hosting an ice cream social from 1-4pm. The featured item will be the “Mochie Crunchie Ice Cream Sando,” a collaboration between bakery Loaf Language and 626 Ice Cream. Walk-ups are welcome, or you can pre-order, too.
Woon Kitchen in Historic Filipinotown is doing an exciting dinner pop-up with Sandita’s World this Tuesday, August 30th. The one-time menu will feature dishes like scallop tostadas, smoked lamb chops in curry, mushroom laab, and whole fish platters.
