There’s been a mini explosion of appreciation for NYC-style bagels, but Rye Lane Bagels is firmly of the chewy, London beigel variety. This tiny spot isn’t much more than a doorway a minute from Peckham Rye station, although there’s character in its 2x2 space. Paper sacks of freshly made bagels sit on the counter, NTS-ish bops play throughout the day (and until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays), while a polite queue forms outside. You can get plain, poppy seed, or everything here, and each one is made to order and generously filled. A satisfying—although not hot—tuna melt is a great lunchtime fix, while smoked salmon and cream cheese—topped with a dash of El Yucateco and a sprinkle of Tajín—is a satisfying little riff on a classic.
