Maya's Bakehouse

We would happily select items from the counter of this Tulse Hill bakery blindfolded because there are no misses. Come before 9am and you can take your time choosing between malty Guinness cakes or well-spiced carrot cakes, a jalapeño and cheddar loaf or sticky cinnamon buns. As you do some deep existential pondering, bakers deliver more trays from the open kitchen that will complicate your decision. Post-9am, the windows steam up and the morning rush slows. There's limited counter seating, but it's more for leaning and chatting or rearranging an overflowing bag of treats, so most people take their haul home. Just don’t leave without getting a hot chocolate. It comes with a marshmallow, blowtorched in front of you with the kind of intensity usually reserved for welding.
