Four Hundred Rabbits

Even on a grey day, pizza spot Four Hundred Rabbits has the feel of a holiday resort where best friends take hot dog leg selfies and cackle over frozen margaritas, and multi-generational families—giddy with white chocolate and raspberry gelato—gather around Brockwell Lido. The outside seating is best, right by the pool, where people divide into two camps—those who practise breaststroke and come for coffee afterwards, and those who sit, bone-dry, under a bamboo and foliage-strewn canopy having a catch-up. There’s a laid-back, easy feel—with ecstatic children running around and natural wine spilling on tables—but that belies how good the pizza is. Crisp, chewy sourdough bases come with interesting toppings like rhubarb and chipotle-rolled goats’ cheese. It’s satisfying stuff and beats most things we’ve had at a holiday resort.
