The weather’s getting warmer, and you and your flatmate just spent the last few nights watching every old episode of Come Dine With Me you could find. That means… you could probably use something to do this weekend. If so, you’ve come to the right place. From one night only dinner services to limited edition tacos in Hackney, here are 6 Exciting Things To Do & Eat in London Between July 16th and 22nd.

When: Sunday 18th July

Ever since we were four years old and saw The Little Mermaid for the first time we have held one belief above all others. Put simply, you cannot have a bad time if crustaceans and upbeat tunes are involved. This Sunday you’ll find both at The Exhibit, a three-storey restaurant and bar in Balham where their alt-sunday lunch includes a whole lobster, fries, salad, and ‘a glass of bubbles’ for £25. Their house band will be kicking things off at 2pm and, yes, you will need a ticket.

FYI if you’re looking for something else to do in the area this Balham Comedy Festival is also taking place two minutes up the road at The Bedford.

Some Very Organised Food-Related Fun

When: 16th, 17th, and 18th July

How does a cooking class with Big Zuu, live music, and a lemon pie the size of your head sound? Better than going to Nando’s for the second weekend in a row, that’s for sure. And lucky for you, The Taste of London festival has some tickets up for grabs until Sunday. As the name suggests, you can expect some great food - think a lamb shoulder roti special from Hoppers, arancini al tartufo from everyone’s favourite OTT restaurant group (Big Mamma) , and croquetes from Bar Douro. As well as that, there’s a whole timetable of fun-sounding events you can book like a 5-course picnic, cocktail masterclasses, and exciting restaurant pop-ups. Book quick because tickets are limited.

Eat Limited Edition Tacos in the Sunshine

Old Street Brewery - Hackney Wick

$$$$

When: Everyday

The British weather is an absolute fuck boi. There, we said it. One minute it’s all ‘oh hey, I’m shining’ and the next you’re weeping in a puddle wondering why you ever trusted them enough to wear sandals. But we’re tentatively believing our weather apps when they say that there will be some serious sunshine this weekend. And what do you do when it’s sunny? Eat tacos outside, of course. Mexican BBQ folk The Scoundrels are currently serving their fresh tortillas and gooey quesadillas at Old Street Brewery which, confusingly, is actually in Hackney Wick. As you’d expect from a taproom, there’s also plenty of beer available and outdoor benches to bask in the (hopefully) glorious weather.

Live Music & Detroit-Style Pizza

When: Saturday 17th July

We know, we know. Telling your friends you got them a spot at ‘Lit Saturdays’ might raise some eyebrows, but this late night bar in Clapham has live music, DJs, cocktails, and most importantly - Party Store Pizza. That’s right, we’d head to this new bar for the deep pan Detroit-style pizza’s alone. P.S. after 19th July, they’ll be open until 3am on the weekends.

Enjoy Some Medicinal Comedy (CC: The Sunday Scaries)

When: Sunday 18th July

We laugh in the face of the Sunday scaries. Kind of. Actually, most of the time we cry, watch something morose on iPlayer, and go on long winded rants about ‘capitalism’. If that doesn’t sound like fun, then head to watch some top comedy instead. The Bill Murray is a great little Angel boozer that also just so happens to be one of our all-time favourite comedy clubs in London. We’ve been to see friends perform here, we’ve cried attempting to fit in their tiny toilet cubicles, and we’ve laughed so hard that we spilled half a pint and didn’t even mind. This Sunday, certified comedy babe Rosie Jones will be gracing their intimate stage with some new material. If you don’t already know her then you’ve been missing out on some proper lols (yes, we said ‘proper lols’) but you’ll recognise her from 8 Out Of 10 Cats and her travel show Trip Hazard. Doors open at 7.45pm and tickets start at £15 for two people.

A One-Night-Only Chef Collab

When: Friday 16th July

There’s nothing like a limited edition collab to get your heart pumping. Will I get a seat? What if I turn up and the menu is just roast potatoes? WHEN WILL THEY ANSWER MY DM?! Chef Coco Kwok who runs Newgate Studio - a supper club - from her home, will be joining chef Vasilis Chamam at Catalyst Roasters for a one-night-only dinner service. They haven’t released a menu yet, but it should be exciting, so DM them for a spot.
