Over the past year, London restaurants - and the UK hospitality industry as a whole - have faced an unprecedented battle. The pandemic and the government’s stop-start support of the industry has meant that many restaurants, pubs, and bars face a continually uncertain and unstable future. While the industry is left to deal with the repercussions of repeated closures, there are ways in which we can all continue to support the hospitality industry in London and nationwide. Here are a few ideas of ways you can keep supporting restaurants.

CHAMPION THE SEAT AT THE TABLE CAMPAIGN
Seat At The Table is an online campaign to inform people about the petition for the government to appoint a Minister for Hospitality. To quote the campaign:
“Hospitality is the third largest employer in the UK yet there is no Minister for Hospitality in government. Over 3 million are employed by the sector and a further 2m dependant on it, there is £130bn in activity resulting in £38bn in taxation. This sector needs a seat at the highest table of government, as so many enjoy a seat at the tables of hundreds of restaurants, pubs, cafes and bars throughout the UK.”
If you haven’t already, you can sign the petition here. The issue is due to be discussed in the House of Commons on 11 January 2021.
SUPPORT THE INDUSTRY WITH HOSPITALITY ACTION
Hospitality Action was first established in 1837 and has since supported all levels of worker across restaurants, pubs, bars, cafés, hotels, schools, hospitals and venues. They’ve recently launched Invisible Chips - a fundraising campaign to help support those in the hospitality industry. Note: they are not real chips.

Meal Kits & More:
BUY GIFT VOUCHERS OR MERCHANDISE
If there’s a restaurant that isn’t doing delivery or meal kits, then they may be doing gift vouchers that you can redeem for meals at a later date. If not, there’s always merch. There are a few ideas on our Christmas Gift Guide but it’s worth checking your favourite restaurant’s website or Instagram to see what they’ve got going on.
