For Cuban food in Houston, the best and one of the only places to go is Cafe Piquet in Bellaire. Built to resemble an ornate Spanish Mission-style mansion, the casual restaurant has almost as many random columns decorating the dining room as items on its very long menu. All the classics are here: croquetas, mariquitas, ropa vieja, vaca frita, fried yuca smothered in garlic-bombed mojo sauce, and a lot more. Plates are gigantic and delicious, so share everything in order to try more. Or, if you’re planning on hiking across the country soon, get everything to go because there is definitely enough food to last you that long. One thing’s certain: Cafe Piquet’s menu will never leave you feeling like there’s nothing to eat.
