Bungalow
From the second you walk up to Bungalow, an upscale steak and seafood restaurant in Downtown Houston, you are made to feel the fantasy. A man in a dark suit opens the door, hosts wearing matching dresses ply you with complimentary champagne flutes, and then you’re led to plush booths surrounding marble-topped tables in a dimly lit, high-ceiling room full of plants. Everyone working here and dining here is impeccably good-looking, and you feel the same, as though the front entrance is some kind of bewitched portal into a better, more beautiful world. The thickly-bound menus list excessively decadent cocktails, giant slabs of meat for sharing, and a whole-fried snapper. The food is decadent, and also heavy, so plan to split a lobster mac and cheese or some fried calamari on a date or a celebratory dinner with friends. You’re through the looking glass, Alice, and they serve delicious, juicy pork chops here.

Cocktails
Everything here is over the top, including the cocktails. Each one arrives in a whimsical glass, shaped like a heart or a mushroom, garnished with orchids or powdered-sugar dusted sage stems.

Fried Calamari and Shrimp
Fried calamari and shrimp is a simple premise, but Bungalow adds a little bit of spice with slices of fried jalapeño and two sauces for dipping: one tangy and one sweet.

The Steak
Bungalow calls itself an upscale steakhouse. The steaks are well-prepared here—with your choice of fancy flavored butters—but other items on the menu are a standout.

The Chop
This giant, tender pork chop is absolutely smothered in sauce, jumbo lump crab, and crispy shrimp. You cannot eat this by yourself, unless you just really want to only eat a giant pork chop.

Lobster Mac and Cheese
Bungalow does not skimp on the lobster, which gets piled right on top. And the homestyle mac and cheese transports you straight to a backyard BBQ. We can’t get enough.
