Jareun Krung
The key descriptor for this casual neighborhood spot in Lincoln Park is industrial-chic—it's all blonde wood, hanging plants, and basket lights. But the best word for their Thai food is underwhelming. Spring rolls are innocuous while salty chicken wings taste mostly of oil. Pork belly pieces are so small and over-fried they may as well be bacon bits. Other items, like the watery, too-sweet green curry, or the flavorless drunken noodles made with spaghetti and more oil, keep the disappointments coming. But, the panang curry and fruit-forward mocktails are decent enough, and at least the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service live up to the “good vibes only” sign on the wall. Jareun Krung shouldn't be your first pick in the area—backup plan only.
