There aren’t a lot of places to grab Venezuelan cachapas in Austin, which is why it’s exciting to stumble on some great ones after a long night of bar-hopping on Rainey Street. A thick half-inch layer of mild and slightly salty queso de mano forms the foundation for the sweet corn cake that surrounds it all. And a small pile of pulled pork or shredded chicken feels like you’re eating something just a little more balanced than a half-pound of melted cheese. There are also pretty solid arepas, empanadas, and loaded yuca fries, if you prefer your meal in handheld or finger-food form, but it’s the cachapas that you should zero in on after a night out.
