Mozzeria
While Mozzeria’s pizza is decent, it’s how you experience the H St. restaurant that makes it worth visiting. The deaf-owned pizzeria centers deaf culture, so American Sign Language (or a lot of pointing for anyone who isn’t fluent) is used from the moment you walk through the door. There’s a small bar and dining room, which gets busy pretty quickly. A video about the restaurant—including its design that makes it easier for the staff to communicate with each other no matter where they are in the dining room and kitchen—plays on a loop above the host stand. The menu has a number of vegetarian and vegan options, plus a solid mocktail selection, including the When Life Gives You Lemons, a tart thyme lemonade served in a martini glass.
