Clare and Don’s is a pretty terrible pun on Clarendon, but we forgive it because the nice patio, surfboards on the wall, and live music almost every night make us feel like we’re spending our Happy Hour in a (mildly cheesy) tiki hut. Come here for a casual date or to escape from the city with some fruity drinks and fried seafood. And for those who saw “Falls Church” and immediately lost interest - it’s only a few minutes outside Arlington.

Stoney’s On L
Stoney’s in Foggy Bottom has a good patio, a solid happy hour, and plenty of TV’s to watch the game on.
Right off U Street, Takoda has a nice (but small) rooftop and some good bar food options. We like it for a day drinking session or even a casual date.
Suggested by our writers
Texas Jack’s Barbecue
Texas Jack’s in Arlington is a bit fancier and more buttoned up than your typical BBQ joint, but the food is very good.
Green Pig Bistro
A meal at Green Pig Bistro will be meat heavy and very good. Bring a big group and sit at the communal table.
The food at Colada Shop is just okay, but the space and location make it a good place for a quick meal around U Street.
