Stable has succulents galore, hipster signage, and lots of outdoor seats on the side patio. Skip the avocado toast, and go with the huevos or chilaquiles for breakfast. They rule. At lunch, the grilled chicken sandwich, paninis, or quinoa salad are the way to go.
Saint Frank in Russian Hill is a bit swanky for a coffee shop, but it has nice light, space to work, and some good breakfast options.
The Embarcadero location of Philz is big, and a good place to stop in for pastries, toasts, and caffeine.
Mercury Cafe is a simple, low-key coffee shop in Hayes Valley. The coffee is fine, but we like the scones better. And the free wifi.
