Two things are simultaneously true at Il Parco in the Presidio. One: the focaccia, which is the main event here (served in pizza, sandwich, or plain form) is delicious. It’s light yet sturdy, and crackly-crisp on the bottom. The second is that you should expect to spend a lot of money—so much that any genuine excitement you felt toward that mortadella-topped slice may disappear.
The takeout-oriented cafe, which is right next to the Presidio Tunnel Tops park, is undoubtedly a great location for a picnic. Have family in town and want to show them the Golden Gate Bridge? Or maybe you’re getting fresh air with a lot of kids and/or dogs? Grabbing lunch at Il Parco just makes sense. But seeing as iPhone-sized slices of pizza average around $16 apiece (they’re also not warmed up), you’re better off grabbing food nearby in the Richmond or Marina and bringing it to the park. Or come for a snack (rather than a full meal) and enjoy a slice of chocolate cake with some of the best views in the city.
