Dulan's Soul Food Kitchen
A revered soul food spot with two locations in Inglewood (and one in Crenshaw), Dulan’s is an LA institution. You order at the counter from big, hot plates full of things like fried chicken and smothered pork chops with gravy, but if you’re lucky enough to visit Dulan’s before they run out of oxtails (which sometimes happens by 6pm), you should absolutely make the tender, gravy-covered beef chunks a top priority. There’s truly no wrong way to order here, though–our go-to is the chicken, which tastes like it’s been marinated for days and then gets fried until it’s golden brown.
When it comes to choosing your sides, you should know that Dulan’s does all the Southern classics very well. From savory string beans and peppery collard greens to creamy mashed potatoes and sweet candied yams, they all help make up one of the most comforting menus we’ve ever experienced. Our absolute favorite is the baked mac and cheese, with its gooey center and crispy edges. But ultimately, we keep all the sides in our rotation, along with an order of buttery peach cobbler to bring home for a midnight snack.

Fried Chicken Meal
When you arrive at Dulan’s, you might feel a tingling sensation in the pit of your stomach. Don’t be alarmed, that’s your brain telling you to order this. Their friend chicken tastes like a crunchy love triangle between garlic, pepper, and salt, and it’s a great choice that pairs well with virtually any combination of sides here.
